POSITION TITLE: Accounts Payable Technician REPORTS TO: Business Manager DEPARTMENT: Business Services CATEGORY: Classified
CONTRACT TERM: Twelve Months (12) CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Accounts Payable Technician position who is organized, detail oriented, and looking for the opportunity to support students and staff. Significant responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Technician include planning and implementing accounts payable activities within the Hopi Junior/Senior High School.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Review invoices for accuracy: matching invoices with approved purchase orders and receiving reports to verify the quantity and price.
- Process invoices for payment utilizing an automated system, including reconciling discrepancies and matching the check with backup for mailing and filing.
- Maintain the filing system to substantiate payments and other accounting procedures as required.
- Research and resolve a variety of Internal and external inquiries concerning invoices, account status, and including communicating the resolution.
- Responsible for bank reconciliation on all checking accounts including the student activities account.
- Responsible for assisting the student activity clubs in reconciling and recording their cash receipts and deposits for fundraisers, etc.
- Responsible for directing units providing financial management services including collections, deposits, processing obligations, audits and safeguarding of funds.
- Assists in the external audits, by providing appropriate and necessary documents to the auditors regarding cancelled checks, bank reconciliation and certain bank transactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Working knowledge of personal computers, School ERP Pro Infinite Visions software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and skills in using School ERP Pro Infinite Visions accounting system.
- Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction, take responsibility for
Own actions, and commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with
Student, staff and/or parent information.
- Ability to meet challenges with resourcefulness and generate suggestions for improving
Work.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with others.
- Knowledge of general school site rules and policy.
- Knowledge of Governing Board rules of conduct and policy.
- Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, requiring the ability to interact professionally and courteously with students, faculty, staff and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration (12 credit hours in Business Administration) preferred, or related field; AND
- Three (3) years’ work experience in school finance setting or financial/accounting data processing.
PREFERRED QUAILIFICATIONS:
- Hopi/Indian Preference in employment considered.
- Valid State Driver Licenses.
- Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Must successfully pass employment background checks within the last five years which include state, federal and local tribe.
