JOB SUMMARY: 

Hopi Junior Senior High School is seeking applicants for a Food Service Helper position who are enthusiastic and looking for the opportunity to prepare students for a successful future.  Under supervision of the Food Service Manager, prepares simple menu items and sets up food serving lines. This position also assists in maintaining food production areas in a clean and sanitary condition; and other related work as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: 

Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.

 

Knowledge of safe and sanitary procedures and practices relating to school kitchens and food service;

 

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

 

Skill in operating  a  variety  of  modern  institutional  kitchen  tools,  appliances,  and  equipment  in  a  safe  and effective manner.

 

Ability to use and operate weighing and measuring devices.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must obtain and keep current an Arizona State Food handlers permit.

 

Experience with demonstrates a knowledge of food handling.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Indian Preference in employment considered.

 

One year of institutional food preparation and kitchen experience.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE 

 

Need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Nine (9) month contract. Salary and work year established by the Governing Board per administrative salary schedule.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff.  This position works out of a kitchen which has a variety of hazards due to high and low temperatures, kitchen equipment, and a fast paced lunch time work environment.
